President Buhari summons NSA and northern governors over insecurity

Ibrahim Gambari, the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, June 23, summoned some northern governors over issues of insecurity in the region.

One of the attendees of the meeting, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara told journalists at the State House in Abuja that the meeting was convened by Gambari at the National Security Adviser’s office, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

He said: “We discussed intensively about the security issue in Northern Nigeria, not just in Zamfara.

“We met in the National Security Adviser’s office with northern governors and the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies. We discussed extensively on the issue of insecurity.”

Matawalle disclosed that the major topic of discussion was the menace of insecurity, especially in the northern geopolitical region.

Concerning what his government is doing to curtail the rate of violent crimes, the governor explained that the administration is employing the carrot-and-stick approach for criminals.

He revealed that repentant bandits who have been profiled in the state are reintegrated into the society.
