The Nigerian forward, who was crowned the best player in the league barely two months after joining them found the back of the net in the 16th minute.

Osimhen beat three defenders to connect with Jonathan Ikone’s square play from the left flank before putting the ball beyond the visitor’s goalkeeper’s reach from close range.

Across competitions, the former Wolfsburg attacker is now responsible for 14 goals – eleven direct goals and three assists.

Christophe Galtier’s men had a chance to double their lead in the extra minutes of the game but Jonathan Bamba failed to convert his penalty kick.

However, Osimhen’s 16th-minute strike was enough to earn the home team maximum points after the match as they are third on the log with 28 points – eight points behind Paris Saint Germain.

Although, they have played two more games than the defending champions who will face Monpellier on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, Osimhen will be hoping to replicate his scoring for the Ligue 1 side when they visit Stamford Bridge for their last group H encounter even though they are out of the tourney already.

They have managed just one point in their last five matches and they will hope they can put a dent on the Blues chances of reaching the next round of the competition.

It will, however, be recalled that Osimhen was on target three times when he represented his country’s national team during last month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He scored one against Benin Republic in Uyo and then fired two past Lesotho away from home four days later for the Gernot Rohr-led side.
