The software mega-company Microsoft is the latest organisation to take the work-from-home concept a step further and offer it as a permanent provision.

A lot of companies had to adopt a work from home policy due to COVID-19 and some companies have chosen to make the leap and make the new normal a permanent thing.

Employees will have the option of working from home, subject to approval from their managers, and in exchange will give up their office space at the company according to The Verge.

Human resources head Kathleen Hogan said in a note to employees obtained by The Verge:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged all of us to think, live and work in new ways.

“We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support individual work styles, while balancing business needs and ensuring we live our culture.”

Hogan said that they were not abandoning working from the office as there are benefits of working alongside colleagues according to ENCA.

Hogan wrote:

“We are not committing to having every employee work from anywhere, as we believe there is value in employees being together in the workplace.”
