A trader at Wuse market in Abuja, Hassan Ibrahim, also explained that hundreds of passengers got out of their vehicles to take refuge around nearby Zuma estate.

He said some security men in plain clothes were later sighted heading towards the direction where the gunmen laid the siege.

A similar incident took place at the same area where about 20 persons were abducted and taken into the bush.

Some of them were held in captivity for days before regaining freedom after paying ransom.

Last month, heavily armed kidnappers abducted a widow, Mrs. Hannatu Tukura, alongside her 30-year-old son, Takpeyilo Tukura in Tiza Junction in Kuje area council of the FCT.

A resident of the community, simply identified as Benjamin, said the incident happened around 8:12 pm on Sunday, October 20, when the woman, her son and two other women were travelling to Rubochi village.

He said Takpeyilo was driving and on approaching the junction, gunmen appeared from the bush and flagged the vehicle down, opened the door and ordered the woman and her son out of the vehicle and whisked them away into the bush.
