Willian took advantage of a short corner and made the step-over before drilling in a right-foot shot into the left hand corner of Gazzaniga to make it 1-0.

It took Spurs 27 minutes to create their first meaningful chance of the match as Moussa Sissoko made a cut-back to Harry Kane who could not keep his shot down.

Two minutes later Son Heung-min was at the near post to met a low cross from Kane but the Korean could not keep his shot on target.

On time added on, Chelsea earned a penalty after Gazzaniga missed a clearance and crashed into Marcos Alonso.

And after a VAR check, the away side were awarded a penalty as Willian sent the Argentine keeper the wrong way to make it 2-0.

Chelsea had a goal disallowed in the 55th minute after Tammy Abraham pounced on a spilled shot by Gazzaniga but the referee’s assistant spotted him in an offside position.

Son was given his marching orders for the second time this season after he kicked Antonio Rudiger in an off the ball incident.

Jose Mourinho’s men played the rest of the game with ten men as his side could not find an opening in Chelsea’s defence for the remainder of the encounter.

The match ended 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as Chelsea get back to winning ways.
