The political intrigues in Edo state took a new dimension on Sunday, August 30, after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed that an opinion poll conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) projected that the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, will win the Edo governorship election.

Chris Nehikhare, the spokesperson for the Edo state chapter of the PDP made the claim at a press conference in Benin, Business Day reported.

“I can tell you that the APC conducted an opinion poll which showed that Obaseki will win the forthcoming election,” Nehikhare said.

He stated that the result showed that the PDP won overwhelmingly in at least 16 Local Government Areas (LGA’s) out of the 18, leaving only two councils for APC.

The PDP chieftain said the result of the poll has caused confusion and chaos among APC leaders.

In response, however, the APC dismissed PDP’s claims as false.

John Mayaki, the chairman of the Edo state media campaign council of the APC distanced his party from the reported poll.

He said the APC does not have the funds to conduct any such polls.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the APC in Edo state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is not leaving any stone unturned in his bid to win the forthcoming poll.

Ahead of the election, Ize-Iyamu who is also a pastor has sought the spiritual blessing of the general overseer of OMEGA Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

A collection of photos published by The Nation shows the APC candidate and other APC chieftains.
