The monarch in a statement by the secretary of Benin traditional council, Frank Irabor, said that as a non-partisan traditional ruler, he rejoices with the governor on his re-election.

The Oba of Benin also praised the people of Edo for clearly and loudly making their choice in the just-concluded poll.

Oba Ewuare also praised all the governorship candidates across political parties in the state and their supporters for adhering to his advise on ensuring a violence-free election.

The statement read: “On behalf of the Oba of Benin, the Benin Traditional Council wishes to congratulate Governor Obaseki on his re-election for a second term.

“The Oba of Benin thanks all the candidates for adhering to the advice for a violent-free election given to them during the peace meeting in the Oba’s palace before the election, which has been widely-acclaimed to have doused the tension that was building up before the poll.”

The Oba also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring free and violence-free election as a way to prove his love for democratic processes.

He also thanked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its peaceful and smooth conduct of the election.
