The 61-year-old Spaniard was appointed as replacement for Ernesto Valverde who was sacked at Nou Camp despite the Catalans topping the La Liga standings.

Before appointing Quique Setien as the new coach, Barcelona approached former captain Xavi for him to replace Valverde, but he rejected the offer.

Barcelona chiefs had to give Setien the managerial job thereby handing him a contract until the summer of 2022.
